DISINFECTION.*
The work of disinfection continues to be considerable. It includes the
disinfection, as well as the stripping of the walls of rooms in houses, wherein an
infectious disease has occurred, and also the class-rooms of schools. It also
embraces the disinfection of infected clothing, bedding, furniture, and the like
as well as verminous articles, such as furniture or clothing.
Disinfection of Rooms.—There were 1,777 rooms disinfected after
infectious diseases, or for other causes, as compared with 2,334 in the preceding
year. As usual the disinfectant used was for the most part formaldehyde
in gas or in solution, and, where circumstances demanded, sulphur
dioxide, especially where there were vermin to be destroyed.
The Cleansing and Stripping of Rooms.-As many as 1,093 rooms, as contrasted with 947 in 1909, were cleansed, sprayed or stripped.
