OCCUPATION OF PERSONS ATTACKED WITH INFECTIOUS
DISEASES.
It has been the rule of the Public Health Department for very many
years when making an investigation into the cause of a case of an infectious
disease, to ascertain the nature of any employment that was being carried on
in the house, if it be a business premises as well as a dwelling house, or by an outworker
if it be a dwelling house only. As a consequence much good has been
effected, and businesses, which could only be continued with much risk to the
public, e.g., dairies, have been stopped until all danger had passed away;
while outworkers have been prevented continuing their work, and if necessary,
the goods which they have been making were disinfected. Mrs. Young in
her interesting report mentions seventeen such cases, which occurred during
the year, and specifies two of special importance. One has only to look
through the Table CI. to see how important it is to make enquiries into the
occupation of persons attacked with an infectious disease, and to understand
how necessary it is that their employers should be informed of the fact so
that any articles they have received from their employees might be disinfected,
if necessary.
