It may he added that up to this date (June 19th, 1911), this man has been
notified an additional 15 times, so that altogether 88 notifications have been
received respecting him.
From this statement it will be seen that a sum of 9s. 9d. has been paid
in notification fees during the year in respect of this one patient.
Voluntary Notification ot Phthisis.—Only 57 cases were notified
voluntarily by members of the medical profession, of which 23 occurred in their
private practice as medical practitioners, and 34 in connection with their official
position in public institutions, such as the City Road Chest Hospital and the
Brompton Hospital. One of the Relieving Officers also notified a case of the
disease, which did not come within the Poor Law regulations.

Disinfection of Premises —The disinfection of premises after phthisis
has greatly increased since the Tuberculosis Order of 1908 came into force,
as may be seen in the Table given below. The numbers have increased from
'283 houses and 380 rooms in 1905 to 481 houses and 045 rooms in 1910.
The method of disinfection is that of spraying formaldehyde solution on the
walls, floors and ceilings, while in nearly every case the bedding and other soft
goods are removed to the disinfecting chamber. The following are the
