DIABETES MELLITUS.
The return of 34 deaths in 1910 is only two below that of the preceding
year, and compares with an average of 29 in the ten years 1900-1909. It is
true that the number of deaths when contrasted with such a disease as phthisis
is comparatively small, but inasmuch as they occur mostly among persons of 25
years and over, and, therefore, among the working periods of life, they are
important. It is on this account that of late years the Medical Officer of
Health has issued a statement similar to that given below.
