Whooping Cough.—83 cases were notified during the year, with
4 deaths. This is an increase on the figures of 1930, when 14 cases,
with 2 deaths, were recorded. 53 cases were moved to hospital, 45
being between the ages of 1 and 5. The death rate for Westminster
was 0.03, for London 0.07, and for England and Wales 0.06.
The deaths from whooping cough during the last five years are thus
set out:—

Cerebro-spinal Fever.—8 cases of this disease occurred with 2
deaths.
Poliomyelitis.—No cases occurred.
Encephalitis Lethargica.—1 case was notified. 2 deaths occurred
during the year.
Chicken Pox.—204 cases occurred, 31 being moved to hospital.
This disease was made notifiable in March, 1930, owing to the prevalence
of smallpox in the vicinity of the City. As the cases of smallpox were so
few and experience over a period of 18 months failed to show that, in
Westminster at any rate, there was any measure of confusion between
the two diseases, notification ceased in October, 1931.
Mumps.—80 cases were recorded, 15 cases being moved to hospital.
Anthrax.—There were no cases in 1931.
