Water Supply.—The Metropolitan Water Board sent three notices
of withdra wal of water supply to premises. In each case the reason for
the action of the Board was failure to pay water rate.

The number of cases in which this action was taken since 1926 is as follows :—

By-laws as to Removal of Offensive Refuse.—Three cases were reported
during the year. A summons was issued in each instance ; two of the
defendants were fined 40s. and the other 30s., including costs.
Lighting of staircases in tenement buildings.—The L.C.C. (General
Powers) Act, 1927 (Sec. 61), provides that every tenement building shall,
wherever practicable, be provided with adequate means of natural
and artificial lighting, and those constructed after the commencement of
the Act with windows to the external air at each storey.
During the year, the Sanitary Inspectors reported two cases of
inadequate artificial lighting of staircases in tenement buildings. The
owners of the premises were notified of the requirements of the Act, and
the necessary means of lighting was duly provided in each case.

Occupations and Workshops.—In the following tables are shown in
detail the number and variety of work premises on the register at the end
