from the Continent, the Council had prepared and circulated notices
dealing with flies.
2,428 intimations of nuisances, &c., and 105 statutory notices
(including 6 for smoke nuisances) were issued; 1,863 letters were
written.

Police court proceedings for failure to comply with statutory notices were taken with the following results:—

26, Bessborougli Gardens (dwelling house).Defective chamber in drain, un-trapped sink waste pipe, improperly connected waste pipe of geyser to bath waste.Order to abate nuisance in 14 days; 6s. costs.

57, Carnaby Street (dwelling house).Defective drain in yard causing basement of 25, Beak Street to be damp.Work done; summons withdrawn on payment of 10s. 6d costs.
6, New Burlington Place (workshops).Defective roof to workshop at rear, and damp wall to women's workroom.Work done; summons withdrawn on payment of costs, 10s. 6d.
14 and 16, Chadwick Street (dwelling houses).Foul and obstructed condition of drain; generally dirty and dilapidated condition of house.Closing order made.
