In addition, 5 deaths were recorded among former inmates of the
following premises, the use of which as common lodging-houses has
now been given up:—107, Wardour Street, 26, Lichfield Street, and
6, Great Smith Street.
Besides these, deaths were recorded of 156 persons with no fixed
address who had been admitted to the hospitals and infirmaries of
Westminster.
Tuberculosis.—New cases of pulmonary tuberculosis in men were
notified from the following premises:—
Bruce House, 39 S. A. Shelter, Kean Street, 15
33, Great Peter Street, 5 S. A. Shelter, Great Peter Street, 7
12, Hanover Court, 5
Besides, 41 inmates of common lodging-houses who had been notified
in previous years (1905-1910), were re-notitied in 1911.
In addition there were 19 casuals or homeless persons in St. George's
Union district, 5 in the Strand, and 5 in the Westminster Union
districts, making 100 in all, two of these were women. With two
exceptions all were reported by Poor Law Medical Officers.
Revenue Act.
Certificates under this Act relieve the recipient from the payment
of Inhabited House Duty. Applications were received by me in 6
instances comprising 40 tenements. Certificates were refused for five
tenements. The premises in which are situated the tenements for
which certificates were granted are:—
Ashley Mansions. Crediton Mansions.
St. George's Mansions. Garrick Mansions.
Two applications were also made for common lodging-houses and
were granted, viz., for the Salvation Army Shelters in Kean Street and
Great Peter Street.
Smoke Prevention.
The City is divided into two parts for purposes of smoke inspection,
under Inspectors McNair and Williams. The following is a summary
