Society, who appointed a special lady phthisis visitor (according to the
scheme detailed in previous reports), it would have been impossible to
have kept in touch with the details of each case. A card record is
prepared for each person, and these cards are submitted to me daily.
The following table shows the number dealt with through' the society
during 1911 ; it excludes common lodging house and certain other
cases where visiting was not possible, or considered necessary. In the
course of visiting, a number of persons are discovered who appear to be
phthisical or are in a state of health in which they might readily be
infected if in contact with phthisical patients. In this way, 248 persons
have been under observation during the year, 79 of these were already
receiving medical care, and the remainder were brought under medical
inspection, and, where necessary, continued supervision. They include
many delicate children. As a result, 21 cases were definitely diagnosed
as pulmonary tuberculosis, and 4 as other forms, while 150 were
reported to be free from tuberculosis, but many of these were found to
be suffering from other complaints requiring medical attention. The
remainder are still being kept under observation.
