The mortality is greatest among children at ages 1 to 5 years; at
that period it amounted to 13.6 per cent. of the cases notified, and
between 5 and 15 years 6.7 per cent.;there were no deaths in the 46
persons under 1 or over 15 years of age.
In 5 instances 2 cases occurred in one house.
Supply of Anti-toxin.—The Local Government Board, in a letter
dated the 15th August, 1910, stated that they have had under consideration
the question of facilitating the prompt use of diphtheria
anti-toxin in the case of persons who may be attacked by diphtheria or
exposed to the infection of the disease, and with that object they have
made an Order under Section 77 of the Public Health (London) Act,
1891, sanctioning the provision by Councils of metropolitan boroughs of
a temporary supply of diphtheria anti-toxin and of medical attendance
in connection therewith.
The Board pointed out that the arrangements with respect to the
keeping, distribution and use of the diphtheria anti-toxin are to be
made in accordance with the advice of the Medical Officer of Health,
