Statistics of Dwellers in Block Dwellings.—These are set out in
Table XIII.

A comparison of the births and deaths in the Council's Buildings in Begency Street during the last six years is given below.

The birth-rate for St. John's Ward, in which the Buildings are
situated, is 27 0 for 1910. In the adjoining County Council Buildings
at Millbank the rate is 33.2.
The death-rate compares favourably with that of the Ward, which
was 16.5. The rate in the Millbank Buildings is 11.8 per 1,000.
Measles.—There is, I think, no doubt that there is a greater incidence
in block dwellings. Certain of the differences in the death-rates given
below are due to the varying proportion of children under 5 years of age.
I have therefore ascertained the relative proportions at this age-period
in the various sets of dwellings, and compare them with London and
Westminster. The proportions for the County and City, Peabody
Buildings and the Improved Industrial Buildings are those given as the
result of the last Census, and are probably higher than will be found at
the Census this year, as the birth-rate has markedly decreased in the
decade. Those for the City's dwellings in Regency Street and the
London County Council buildings at Millbank and Drury Lane are the
exact figures at the present moment (these buildings were erected subsequent to 1901).
The figures for the former may therefore require
some amendment.
