Scarlet Fever.— There were 12,531 cases notified in London in 1903,
as compared with 18,252 in 1902, and 352 in the City, as compared
with 475 in each of the two previous years. These figures give rates of
271 per 10,000 of population for London, against 39.1 in 1902, and
19"6 for Westminster, against 25'8 in 1902. In certain of the Wards,
however, scarlet fever was prevalent to a marked extent—in St. Anne
Great Marlborough and Eegent Wards; as in the previous year.it

As the majority of cases are in persons under 15 years of age, and
some wards contain a larger proportion of young persons than others, it
would be more instructive to calculate the rate on the number of
persons at these ages in each ward, but, unfortunately, the census figures
