( d) Of the 254 deaths, 43 were those of children under 1 year of age, and 69 those of persons over 65 years of age ; these are referable as follows :—

Infant mortality in London was equal to 127 deaths per 1,000 births registered, in
Westminster the rate was 167 per 1,000.
(e) 14 deaths were due to violence, and 10 of them were ascribed to negligence or
accident. Inquests were held on the bodies of 22 citizens.

3. Notifiable Diseases.—83 cases of Infectious Disease were notified in the City in March, as compared with 59 in the previous four weeks. They were distributed as follows :—

39 of the Scarlet Fever, 20 of the Diphtheria, 6 of the Enteric, and 1 of the Erysipelas
cases were treated in Hospital.
Two cases notified as Diphtheria was reported not to be so.
