Report of the Medical Officer of Health for the
Five Weeks ending 4th April, 1903; together
with Statistics relating to the First Quarter of
the year 1903.
Mr. Mayor, My Lords, and Gentlemen,
I beg to present my Report for the five weeks ending 4th April, 1903 :—
1. Births.—The number of Births registered was 257, equal to an annual rate of 15.0 per
1,000. The birth-rate for London for the same period was 29.0 per 1,000.
2. Deaths :—
(a) The total number of deaths registered was 268. After deducting the deaths of
101 non-citizens in public institutions in the City and adding those of 87 citizens who died
in other districts, the corrected total is 254, as compared with 11)9 in the previous four
weeks, and is equivalent to an annual death-rate of 14.8 per 1,000. The death-rate for
all London during the same period averaged 16.4 per 1,000, being 5 per 1,000 below the
mean rate in the corresponding periods of the 10 years 1893-1902.
(b) According to the old divisions of the City, the births and deaths were thus distributed. In—
