BIRTHS.
The number of Births registered in the Borough during 1909 was
5,720, of which 2,918 were males, and 2,802 females. This represents a
birth-rate of 27.1 per 1,000 inhabitants.
The number of births belonging to the individual parishes was as
follows Newington, 3,452; St. George the Martyr, 1,718; Christchurch,
240; and St. Saviour's, 310.
In addition to the 5,720 births registered in the Borough I learn from
the Registrar General that there were 249 births during the year in
various lying-in institutions outside the Borough belonging to persons
