PREVALENCE OF, AND CONTROL OVER, INFECTIOUS AND
OTHER DISEASES.
There has been no change during 1950 in the infectious diseases
compulsorily notifiable to the Medical Officer of Health.
During the year the total number of notifications received was 1,342
as compared with 2,160 in 1949. This decrease is accounted for by the
decrease in the number of cases of the following:—
Measles
Scarlet
Fever
Tuberculosis
All forms
Scabies

There was an increase however in the number of cases of the
following:—
Whooping
Cough
Pneumonia
Erysipelas
Zymotic
Enteritis

8 cases of Acute Poliomyelitis, 5 of which were confirmed, were
notified during 1950. One case proved fatal. Corresponding figures
for 1949 were 11 cases notified, 9 of which were confirmed. There were
no deaths.
The arrangements under which the Medical Officer of Health is
informed by the Hospital Authorities of any change in the original
diagnosis continued during the year. Particulars of such changes of
diagnosis are included in the following table of notifications received.
