SECTION B.
GENERAL PROVISION OF HEALTH SERVICES FOR
THE AREA.
1. (a) Staff.
The personnel of the staff of the department is set out on page 5 of
the Report.
(b) Laboratory Facilities.
During the year all bacteriological examinations for the Public
Health Department have been undertaken as part of the National Scheme
by the Public Health Laboratory Service (directed by the Medical Research
Council for the Ministry of Health) at the Laboratories at 134, Denmark
Hill, S.E.5.
(c) Ambulance Facilities.
The London County Council is responsible for the provision of
ambulance transport within the administrative County of London.
2. Hospitals.
The undermentioned Hospitals are situated in the Borough and
responsibility for their administration rests upon the North East
Metropolitan Regional Hospital Board.

Poplar Hospital 120
The Poplar Chest Clinic, Wellington Way, E.3, which was formerly
a service provided by the Borough Council, continued to operate under
the control of the North East Metropolitan Regional Hospital Board.
3. Personal Health Services.
The Personal Health Services are under the control of the Local
Health Authority (the London County Council) and the following
information and statistics relating to these services in respect of the year
1950 have been supplied by the Divisional Medical Officer (Division 5)
London County Council.
