MATERNITY AND CHILD WELFARE.
Return (1) showing the arrangements made for Maternity and Child Welfare
by the Council and by Voluntary Associations providing Maternity and Child
Welfare Services in respect of which the Council pay contributions under Section 101
of the Local Government Act, 1929, or otherwise; and (2) giving particulars of the
work done during the year.
1. Population of the area served by the Council:—160,000 (Reg.-General's figure).
2. Number of Births notified in that area during the year under the Notification
of Births Act, 1907 :—
(a) Live births, 2,445; (b) Still births, 80; (c) Total, 2,525.
(d) By midwives, 1,437; (e) By doctors and parents, 544; (f) Institutions
in Borough, 544.
3. Health Visiting.
(i) Number of officers employed for health visiting at the end of the year—
(a) By the Council—Chief Health Visitor, 1; Health Visitors, 8.
(b) By Voluntary Associations—9.
(ii) If any of the Health Visitors arc engaged on other work during part of their
time, state the equivalent of whole-time services devoted by the whole staff
to health visiting—
(a) In the case of Health Visitors employed by the Council—J whole-
time service being spent at the Artificial Light Clinic.
(b) In the case of Health Visitors employed by Voluntary Associations—
No.
(iii) Number of visits paid during the year by all Health Visitors—
(a) To expectant mothers—First visits, 1,306; Total visits, 4,194.
(b) To children under 1 year of age—First visits, 3,094; Total
visits, 23,434.
(c) To children between the ages of 1 and 5 years—Total visits, 46,740;
plus visits paid to children over 5, L.C.C. Measles Scheme, 2,083;
Puerperal Pyrexia, Fever, Maternal Deaths, 50; Total visits
paid, 76,501.
4. Infant Welfare Centres.
(a) Number of Centres provided and maintained by the Council—5.
(b) Number of Centres provided and maintained by Voluntary Associations—3.
