SCHICK TEST AND IMMUNISATION FROM
DIPHTHERIA.
DIPHTHERIA IMMUNISATION CLINIC.
The Clinic was opened on 5th June, 1928, and was held at the Maternity
and Child Welfare Centre, Wellington Road. The Medical Officer in
charge was Dr. F. Porter-Smith, M.R.C.S. (Lond.), L.R.C.P. (Eng.).
At the Public Health Committee Meeting in June the Medical Officer
of Health reported that the number of patients attending did not warrant
the continuation of the Clinic. The total attendances from the 5th June,
1928, to 20th May, 1930, were 1,077, and of these only 153 had been made
during 1930.
During the whole period 121 children had been immunised.
Since 1st January, 1930, there had been only 27 new cases.
Reference was made to the efforts which had been made to bring
this Clinic to the notice of parents, which, in addition to the issue of
handbills at the Maternity Centres, and to all homes where cases of
Diphtheria had occurred, included visits to schools by the Divisional
School Medical Officer, in company with the Medical Officer of Health.
Under the circumstances the Committee agreed to close the Clinic
and this was done on 24th June.
Two further sessions were, however, held in October, to complete
the cases which were already in hand.
The following leport was submitted by the Medical Officer in charge
of the Clinic:—
