[Report of the Medical Officer of Health for Poplar, Metropolitan Borough]

February 16th Over 12s. 6d. less rent, on medical certificate. Between
10s. and 12s. 6d., half price. Under 10s., free.
Expectant mothers to produce a certificate of seven
months' pregnancy from doctor or midwife. No
application to be considered where the income per
head less rent is over 12s. 6d.
March 1st Between 10s. and 12s. Gd., on medical certificate. Under
10s., free. Total earnings of family to be taken as
basis.
May 3rd Families of four and under, 12s. 6d. per head less rent.
Applications.
January The Royal College of St. Katharine, and the Poplar
Infant Welfare Association, to receive and deal with
their own applications, forwarding a list of applications
granted to this department each month.
Applications to be received at every session of the
maternity clinics throughout the Borough.
April Poplar Infant Welfare Association taken over by
Council. Applications received:—West Ferry Road,
Wednesday; Christ Church, Thursday; Allanmouth
Road, Monday; Old Ford, Thursday and
Friday.
September 13th All applications to be made at the Public Health Offices
on printed forms.
December 13th Whole organisation transferred to Public Health Department.

January None.
February 12th Stated income to be compared with Trade Union rates.
If obviously inaccurate, and husband's permission
obtained, Borough Council to verify. Milk to be
granted pending enquiry.
February 18th Committee to verify in doubtful or inaccurate cases
(without husband's permission).
September 13th (Introduction of printed forms.) Enquiries in doubtful
cases made before milk granted.
Quantity Allowed.
January As per Ministry of Health's scale—Children under 18
months, not more than 1½ pints daily; over 18
months, not more than 1 pint. Expectant mothers,
as specified by Medical Officer. Allowed for 28 days.
