The excess of births was as follows:—

The male births in the Borough exceeded those of the female by
74, but the male deaths exceeded those of the female by 186 which
makes a gain of 112 females.
At the end of the years 1898, 1899, and 1900 there was also an
excess of females for the Parishes of Poplar and Bromley. In the
Borough for the year 1901 females also exceeded the males.
