The Bermondsey Borough Council communicated with the Metropolitan
Asylums Board urging the establishment by them of sanatorium
treatment for consumption, and were informed the Board
would consider the advisability of the provision of sanatoria for
consumptives if there be a general consensus of opinion in favour
of such a course among the Metropolitan Local Authorities. ThePublic
Health Committee were of opinion such provision is
desirable and recommended the Metropolitan Asylums Board beso
informed.
The Metropolitan Asylums Board informed the Committee they
had deferred consideration of the subject of the provision of Sanatoria
for consumptive persons until they had received the opinions
of the other Local Authorities of the Metropolis.
The Council of the Royal Borough of Kensington forwarded a
letter to the Local Government Board urging the desirability of theunused
accommodation provided, and in course of provision, by the
Metropolitan Asylums Board, at the Orchard and Joyce Green
Hospitals, for Small Pox cases, being utilised for the treatment of
persons suffering from Consumption. A copy of the letter was
received by the Public Health Committee, who supported the action
of the Council of the Royal Borough of Kensington in the matter.
