Ward Distribution.—Comparing the averages (See below) for the Wards during 1919-20
with those observed during 1914-18, increases are to be observed in two Wards only, viz.
Queen's Park (22 per cent.) and Harrow Road (15.7 per cent.).

Sex-Age Distribution.—Comparing the averages for 1919-20 with those for 1914-18, the
incidence of the disease was 1.8 lower on males (all ages) in 1919-20, and 12.4 less on females.
At the same time the incidence on the two-age groups (both sexes), 4-5 and 5-13 years, was
higher in 1919-20 than in 1914-18. At ages 4-5 the increases were: males 16 per cent.,
females 31 ; and ages 5-13, males 19 per cent, and females 8.
Institutional Treatment.—In 1919, 65 patients (3.4 per cent.) were removed to hospitals
and in 1920, 126 (6.1), For the two years the percentage removed was 4.8 as compared with
3.0 during 1914-18, Of the patients removed during 1919-20, 65 went to M.A.B. hospitals,
78 to the Infirmary, 45 to the London Fever Hospital and 3 to other hospitals.
Home Nursing.—The patients to whom the District Nurses were sent numbered 89 in
1919 and 77 in 1920. In 1917, no fewer than 411 patients were thus nursed, and in 1918, 85.
Fatality.—There were 11 deaths from measles in 1919 and 25 in 1920, giving fatality rates
of 0.5 and 1.2 per cent, respectively. The average fatality during 1919-20 was 0.9 as compared
with an average of 2.5 during 1914-18. Slightly higher fatality rates were observed during
1919-20 among females at ages 0—1 and 5—13, all other sex-age fatalities being lower.
Mortality.—For the two years 1919-20, the average annual number oi deaths was 18, as
compared with corresponding averages of 50 and 53 during 1909-13 and 1914-18. The reduction
in 1919-20 was 64 per cent, below the average for 1909-13.
Institutional Deaths.—Of the 11 deaths in 1919, 2 (18.1 per cent.) took place in institutions,
and of the 25 recorded in 1920, 18 (72 per cent). The average proportion for the two years
was 55.5 per cent., as compared with 29.3 per cent, in 1909-13 and 31.7 per cent, in 1914-18.
Whooping Cough.—This disease is not notified. The Department received, however,
reports of 160 cases in 1919 and 355 in 1920. For the years 1919-20 the annual average was
257, as compared with the averages of 546 and 496 in 1909-13 and 1914-18—showing a
reduction of 53 per cent, on the 1909-13 average.
Ward Distribution.—The averages for 1919-20 compare very favourably with those for
1909-13 and 1914-18 in all the Wards except Lancaster Gate, East. (See below)

Sex-Age Distribution.—The cases (persons) reported during the two years were rather
more than 48 per cent, below the average for 1914-18, the reduction for males being 47
and that for females rather more than 49. Smaller averages were observed in all sex-age
groups.
