IMMUNISATION AND VACCINATION
Active immunisation against the following infectious diseases was offered at Health
Centres and Schools within the Borough; Diphtheria, Whooping Cough, Tetanus,
Poliomyelitis and Smallpox.
Generally, immunisation was offered at some 17 Health Centres to children between
the ages of 1 month and 5 years, and at schools up to the age of 15 years.
Adults, between the ages of 15 and 40 years were also immunised against Poliomyelitis
and Smallpox.
Arrangements exist for Medical Practitioners in the Borough to be supplied free
of cost, with Poliomyelitis Vaccine for persons up to the age of 40, and single or
combined Diphtheria/Whooping Cough/Tetanus Antigens.
Supplies of Smallpox vaccine lymph was obtained by Doctors direct from the
Central Public Health Laboratory, Colindale Avenue, N.W.9. (COL 7041). Arrangements
may also be made for the supply of Anthrax vaccine. Stocks of this are not
kept, but are available from the Central Public Health Laboratory.
The Council will pay a fee of 5/0d. for each completed record of immunisation,
provided it is sent within 3 months of the completion of the Course.
Vaccination against yellow fever may be carried out at certain centres.

Patients are seen only by appointment. No charge is made.
Vaccination against Cholera, Enteric Fever and Typhus is available at the Hospital
for Tropical Diseases, 4, St. Pancras Way, N.l. (Tel: EUS. 4411, Ext. 137) by appointment
only.
The following figures regarding immunisation and vaccination are for the period
1st April to 31st December, 1965. It has not been found possible to include any
figures for the first three months of the year because the areas covered by the former
London County Council Divisional Offices were not coterminous with the former
Metropolitan Boroughs.
