Shops Act, 1950
This Act consolidates the Shops Acts, 1912 to 1938 and certain
other enactments relating to shops. Section 10 of the Shops Act, 1934
relating to ventilation, temperature, sanitary conveniences, lighting,
washing facilities and facilities for the taking of meals, which is the
section with which this authority is concerned, has been repealed and
reenacted in section 38 of the Shops Act, 1950 without any amendment
other than a trifling verbal alteration. The new Act came into force
on October 1.
Food and Drugs (Milk, Dairies and Artificial Cream) Act, 1950
This Act came into operation on January 1, 1951 and makes no
change in the law but consolidates certain enactments relating to milk,
dairies and artificial cream. Part I of the Act provides for the making
of regulations to secure the purity of milk, the registration of dairymen,
dairy farms and dairy farmers. The sale of tuberculous milk and milk
from cows suffering from tuberculosis is prohibited as is also the addition
of water, colouring matter or various other substances.
Part II of the Act deals with regulations regarding licences to use
special designations and makes the use of a special designation obligatory
in areas to be specified by the Ministers of Food and Agriculture and
Fisheries.
Part III deals with artificial cream and prohibits a person from
selling or offering for sale for human consumption under a description
or designation including the word " cream " any substance purporting
to be cream or artificial cream, unless the substance is cream or, where
the substance is artificial cream, the word " cream " is immediately
preceded by the word " artificial." Any premises where artificial
cream is manufactured or sold are required to be registered by the
Food and Drugs Authority within their area.

purposes stated in accordance with the requirements of section 14 (1)
of the Food and Drugs Act, 1938 :—
