Rats and Mice (Destruction) Act, 1919.
During the year 238 investigations were made into complaints of
alleged rat infestation. In 132 instances, defective drains were found
to be responsible, and in 101 instances the contributory cause was
found elsewhere. The complaint was unfounded in 21 cases.
Smoke Abatement.
During the year 166 observations were made by the Sanitary
Inspectors for the detection of nuisances arising from the emission
of smoke, and as a result notices were served in three instances.
The institution of legal proceedings was not necessary in any case.
