The Sale of Food and Drugs (Adulteration) Act, 1928.—
This Act, which came into operation on January 1st. 1929, repeals
and consolidates the provisions of the Sale of Food and
Drugs Acts, 1875 to 1927, together with a number of amending
provisions contained in other Statutes, notably the Milk and
Dairies (Consolidation) Act, 1915. The administering Authorities
are for the first time referred to as " Food and Drugs
Authorities,'" and the Officers who are empowered to take
samples, as " Sampling Officers.'"
Merchandise Marks Act, 1926.—In pursuance of the provisions
of this Act, it is not lawful to sell, expose for sale, or
by way of advertising foods of some other kind, distribute in
the United Kingdom, any imported foods to which there is
applied any name or trade mark being, or purporting to be, the
name or trade mark of any manufacturer, dealer, or trader,
or the name of anv place or district in the United Kingdom,
unless the name or trade mark is accompanied by an indication
of origin.
Section 9 of this Act confers on Food and Drugs Authorities
the power to execute any of the provisions of the Act
(other than those relating to importation) in respect of foodstuffs
which are the subject of an order in Council; and under
this Act the following orders have so far been made in regard
to foodstuffs: —
