Inspectors has been appointed to act as Rat Officer in accordance
with the Act, and he advises occupiers as to the beat methods
of destroying rats, or of rendering buildings rat-proof.
During the year, 182 complaints of rat infestation were
received in the Public Health Department. In 64 instances,
defective drains were found to be the cause of the appearance
of the rats, while in 70 instances the contributory cause was
found elsewhere, generally the proximity of chicken-houses.
The complaint was unfounded in 48 cases.
Factory and Workshop Act.
Details of the administration of this Act are contained in
this report in accordance with the requirement of the Ministry
of Health.
The total number of factories, workshops and work-places
on the Register was 973, and during the year 2,642 inspections
were made of these premises. The number of sanitary defects
found was 119, all of which were remedied.
