YITAL STATISTICS.
Population.—The population of the Borough, estimated
to the middle of the year 1913, and based upon the Census
returns, was 168,822.
This figure is calculated upon the assumption that the
increase in the population maintained the same rater of
progression in the year, as it did during the intercensal
period of 1901-1911. The figure thus obtained, 168,822,
shows an increase in one year of 3,573. The increase in the
population by natural increment, i.e., the excess of births
over deaths amounted to 1,661, and it is assumed, therefore,
that the difference of 1,912 between the total estimated
increase and that shewn by the natural increment, is due
to immigration into the Borough.
The statistics contained in this report are calculated
upon the estimated population stated above.
Census, 1911.—Several volumes of the Census Returns
have been issued since the publication of my last report, and
some of the figures have been extracted and included in this
volume.
