Cervical Cytology screening is carried out by many other agencies such
as hospitals, family doctors and family planning clinics. It is difficult therefore,
to estimate the full provision of this service in Lambeth but Family
Planning Association records show that 2,685 tests were carried out in 1971.
The majority of women who attend ante-natal or post-natal clinics are
tested and family doctors who screen patients over 35 are paid a special
National Health Service fee.
The latter organisation also owns a mobile unit to provide cancer screening facilities in poor response areas in London and has offered its use to Lambeth for a period up to four weeks from 1st October, 1972.
