INSPECTION AND SUPERVISION OF FOOD AND FOOD PREMISES
The Imported Food Regulations 1968
These Regulations made jointly by the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries
and Food and the Minister of Health came into operation on 1st August 1968 and
replace the Public Health (Imported Food) Regulations 1937/48.
The new Regulations introduce several changes in procedure and provide for
the transfer of certain powers from the Regulations to the Food and Drugs Act
1955 where there are comparable powers under that Act. Whilst the authority
responsible for enforcement of the Regulations will normally be the Port Health
Authority of the Port through which food is imported, in certain circumstances
the responsible authority will be an inland local authority.
The Council has considerable responsibilities in respect of Imported Food.
