1. VITAL STATISTICS.
The Registrar-General estimates the population ot the Borough
(up to the middle of 1925) at 311,100, and it is upon this figure that
the death-rates and birth-rates are calculated throughout the Report, th s
estimated population being based on the adjusted 1921 figures, after
allowance for the varying rate of natural increase as evidenced by the
births and deaths in the Borough and of migration as indicated from
other sources of information such as the changes in the numbers on
the Parliamentary Register and the migration returns obtained by the
Board of Trade. The various estimates to the middle of the year 1925
are as follow for the 12 Wards, the 5 Registration Sub-Districts and
the 4 Parliamentary Divisions (the estimation having been made in the
Registrar-General's Office):—
