Slaughtermen's Licences
During the year 9 Licences were issued and were current at 31st December.
EXPORT CERTIFICATES - FOOD
340 export certificates were issued; the food which consisted mainly of animal casings,
meat, tinned and bottled meats and soups was exported to 36 -countries. The majority went to
Belgium, South Africa, U.S.A., Germany, Italy, Canada, Malta, Spain, Sweden, Ceylon, and
Lebanon. Other countries included Bahamas, Brazil, Portugal, Kenya, Holland, Cyprus, Bermuda
and Argentine.

ICE CREAM
ICE CREAM (HEAT TREATMENT, ETC.) REGULATIONS, 1959
Supervision of the manufacture and distribution of Ice Cream.
During the year 154 inspections were made of ice cream premises and vehicles. The number of premises registered under Section 16 of the Food and Drugs Act, 1955.

ICE CREAM SAMPLES
1. BACTERIOLOGICAL EXAMINATION
78 samples of ice cream were sent for bacteriological examination and following Methylene Blue tests, were graded as follows:-

Samples falling within Grades I or II are considered satisfactory. Where results were
not satisfactory, and the ice-cream was made outside the Borough, the appropriate Local
Authority was notified. In the cases of locally made ice-cream, or where faulty handling by
the retailer was suspected, follow-up visits were made and advice given. Further samples were
then taken until satisfactory results were obtained.
2. CHEMICAL ANALYSIS
One sample, which was the subject of a complaint, was sent for chemical examination and
found to be of poor quality.
