Aged Pilgrims' Friend Society Home, Hazellville Road
Recommendations are received from the Matron for inmates of the nursing home
wing who are incontingent. Operation commenced on 19th October, 1959 The weight of
laundry dealt with was 28 cwts. - qtrs 3½ lbs,
Holborn Borough Council
The agreement whereby clothing and bedclothes of incontinent elderly persons in
Holborn Borough can be dealt with at the Islington laundry has continued. This scheme
commenced in 1955, and during the current year 559 washings, comprising 5,510 articles
were carried out on behalf of 35 recipients.
Stoke Newington Borough Council
A similar agreement was entered into, as with Holborn Borough Council, the scheme
coming into effect on 31st October, 1960 During the remainder of the current year
32 washings, comprising 278 articles were carried out on behalf of 5 recipients

Cleansing of Elderly Persons
The service for the personal cleansing of elderly persons is closely linked, as might be
anticipated, with the soiled linen service mentioned above Cleansing may be carried out either
in the person s home, if unable to leave home or alternatively at the Treatment Centre, Seven
Sisters Road, where cases may be taken in the Department" s special ambulance 128 persons were
thus assisted by the Department's nursing and bathing staff, and this entailed 1,284 home visits
and 559 baths given at the Treatment Centre. The work is carried out under the supervision of
the Nurse-in-Charge at the Treatment Centre and, in view of the increase in the laundry and
personal cleansing services, an additional bathing attendant was appointed in July last.
National Assistance Acts, 1948 and 1951
It was necessary to invoke the procedure for the removal to suitable premises without delay
in respect o f five elderly persons in accordance with the provisions of the National Assistance
(Amendment) Act, 1951
An order under subsection (3) of section forty seven of the National Assistance Act,
1948 for the removal of any such person as is mentioned in subsection (1) of that
section may be made without the notice required by sub section (7) of that section
if it is certified by the medical officer of health and another registered medical
practitioner that in their opinion it is necessary in the interests of that person
to remove him without delay
