SECTION E—SUPERVISION OF FOOD.
It was reported in the Annual Report for 1948 that the Council had agreed, in
principle, to provide free of charge washing facilities in public conveniences. The
primary object of this scheme was to encourage greater cleanliness among food
handlers, particularly street traders, who have no convenient personal facilities.
The Council were of the opinion, however, that it would be difficult in practice to
confine such an offer to street food traders, and free washing facilities were therefore
extended to include all members of the public who desired to avail themselves of
this service. This scheme was implemented in April, 1949.
The following table, provided by the courtesy of the Cleansing Superintendent,
gives details of the number of persons who availed themselves of the Council's
facilities.
