Public Health (London) Act, 1936, L.C.C. (General Powers) Act, 1937, Noise Nuisance.
During the year under review repeated complaints were received in respect of
a noise nuisance from a Glass Factory. The complaints were found to be justified,
particularly after normal working hours and at weekends.
The factory was working to full capacity day and night without cessation,
and the roar of the furnace burners, the dropping of the moulds on the metal benches,
and the humming of the fans at nights and weekends were a real source of nuisance
to residents within a few yards of the factory premises.
Day and night inspections were made by the Inspectors, and the Council obtained
the opinion of a Consultant Engineer, who was an expert in furnace construction,
in order that steps could be taken to mitigate the noise nuisance.
Negotiations were still in progress at the end of the year.
Public Health (London) Act, 1936—Offensive Trades.
During the year the Council approved the establishment anew of the trade of a
fat melter in respect of one address. Another trade, namely that of a fur skin dresser,
was discontinued.
