DISTRICT INSPECTORS' WORK.
During the year the fourteen district inspectors made a total of 56,399
inspections and calls, or an increase of 188 inspections on the corresponding period
of 1926; while 13,761 improvements were effected in 6,105 premises; as against
14,299 improvements in 6,115 premises for the preceding year.
Synopsis of Inspectors' Work,—The following statement gives a brief
synopsis of the district inspectors' work in 1927 :—

Notices Served.—There were 4,664 intimation notices served by the
inspectors with respect to nuisances. In 513 instances it became necessary, as
the intimations to owners or occupiers of the properties had been ignored, to
report the nuisances to the Public Health Committee, who ordered statutory
notices to be served.
Verminous Premises—Bedding and Clothing.—25 premises which
were found to be in a verminous condition, were cleansed by the owners or
