Disinfectants Distributed and Used.— The following statement gives the quantity of disinfectants distributed by the Sanitary Authority, or used in disinfecting and cleansing rooms :—

Shelter House.—The Shelter House was not occupied during the year, but
baths were given to 8 verminous persons, and 4 persons suffering from scabies,
while their clothing was disinfected. Eight midwives attended for the purpose of
disinfection after attendance on cases of Puerperal Fever; and 17 other persons
who had been in contact with cases of infectious diseases also had their clothing
disinfected.
Disinfestation of School Children (Cleansing from lice and
other vermin).— During the year 5,035 (including 332 for Scabies) baths were
given to children from the London County Council Schools, who attended the
Disinfecting Station, and were cleansed by the nurse whom the Borough Council
appointed for the work, while their clothing was undergoing disinfection. The
daily attendance ranged from 4 to 59.
The agreement entered into between the London County Council and the
Borough Council from the 1st January, 1921, for the cleansing of verminous
children, is a payment at the rate of 2s. for each attendance of each child at
Cleansing Station, except when such child is, or is suspected to be, suffering
from Scabies, in which case payment by the London County Council will be at the
rate of 1s. for each bath given. The minimum payment to be paid to the
Borough Council in respect of such cleansing shall not be less than £100 per
annum.
The amount paid during the year by the London County Council for the baths
given to the children was £486 18s.
Proceedings were instituted by the London County Council under Section 122
of the Children Act, 1908, in 19 instances during the year, when fines ranging from
5s. to 10s. were inflicted. The total fines received amounted to £7 10s.
PUBLIC BATHS AND WASHHOUSES IN ISLINGTON.
The Municipal Baths and Washhouses are situated in Hornsey Road, N.7,
Caledonian Road, N.l, and Greenman Street, N.I. At each of these three establishments,
in addition to private baths (warm, cold and shower) there are swimming
baths in separate departments for men and women. Each has also a large
washhouse, fitted with appliances for washing, boiling, drying, mangling and
ironing. In October, 1927, a Water Filtration Plant was installed at the
Hornsey Road Swimming Baths. Plant had already been installed at Caledonian
Road and Essex Road Baths since 1906. At that time it was not found
necessary to instal plant at Hornsey Road because art abundant supply of water
was procurable from artesian wells. During recent years, however, the volume
of water thus obtained had diminished gradually; therefore, to conserve the supply
