DEATHS FROM THE DISEASES OF THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM.
(Exclusive of Tuberculosis and Influenza.)
These diseases, which include Chronic and Acute Bronchitis, Pneumonia,
Pluerisy and Asthma, caused 835 deaths, or 126 more than in 1926. They were
equal to a death-rate of 2.5 per 1,000 of the civil population, and represented 20
per cent, of the total deaths registered in the Borough.
Acute Bronchitis.—There were 96 deaths as compared with 78 in the
previous year, 34 occurred among males, and 62 among females. The deaths of
4 infants under 12 months were registered.
Chronic Bronchitis.—241 deaths were ascribed to it, 118 being males and
123 females. This return is 53 above that for 1926.
Pneumonia (All forms).—376 deaths were registered, of which 209 were
males and 167 females. 8 less died than in the year 1926. It was very fatal to
infants under a year old, among whom it caused 70 deaths, while between the
ages of 1 and 5 years 63 died from it. Above 5 years of age the deaths
numbered 243.
136 deaths occurred in Public institutions, chiefly the Islington Infirmaries.
