deaths from this cause during January, issued to the local Press some notes of
warning and advice, with particular reference to child sufferers.

SEPTIC DISEASES.
Erysipelas and Puerperal Septicaemia are the principal diseases of this class.
Erysipelas.—10 deaths were returned from this disease, or 2 more than in the
year 1926, and 1 above the average of the preceding ten years 1917-26.
Puerperal Diseases.—These comprise Puerperal Pyaemia, Septicaemia,
Septic Intoxication and Puerperal Fever, and they caused 12 deaths, which is 1
above the return of 1926 and 3 above the average of the ten years 1917-26. The
death-rate was equal to 1.95 per 1,000 births.
CANCER.
Cancer.—449 deaths were registered from this malignant disease during the
year compared with 453 in 1926, and with an average of 449 in the previous
decennium. The deaths represent a death-rate of 1.34 per 1,000 of the civil
population and is 0.04 below the average rate (1.38) of the last ten years; 225
deaths occurred among males and 224 among females. The following statement
shows the ages at death of the persons attacked during the past ten years, and the
return for the year 1927 :—
