During the year twenty-two cases were dealt with, at a total cost of £325 2s. 6d. The
total amount recovered during the year in respect of burials was £193 7s. 8d. The cases
had come to the notice of the Public Health Department from the following sources:—

New Legislation
Home Safety Act, 1961
This Act which came into force on 18th May, 1961, enables county councils and
metropolitan borough councils to promote safety in the home by publishing or making
arrangements for otherwise giving information or advice relating to the prevention of
accidents in the home or by making contributions to any non-profit making organisation
concerned with safety in the home.
Housing Act, 1961
This Act came into operation on the 24th November, 1961. It confers further powers
on local authorities regarding houses let in lodgings or occupied by members of more
than one family and houses or other buildings affected by clearance orders and demolition
orders.
Factories Act, 1961
This Act which came into operation on 1st April, 1962, consolidates the law relating
to the safety, health and welfare of persons employed in factories.
Public Health Act, 1961
This Act amends the provisions of the Public Health Act, 1936, which with the
exception of one minor provision does not apply to London.
Licensing Act, 1961
This Act became operative on 1st March, 1962, and provides for the objection to or
cancellation of club registration certificates by local authorities.
