Five of the infant deaths recorded above were of infants domiciled outside England
and Wales. Four of these infants died as a result of congenital malformations.
Of the five "Holborn infants" one died of pulmonary haemorrhage shortly after
birth, two died on the first day as a result of atelectasis, one died of pneumonia at the
age of three days and one died at three months as the result of congenital heart disease.
