Examination of the infant deaths of 1959 shows that three deaths occurred in the first
week of life, one due to external hydrocephalus, and two to prematurity.
Of the five children dying between the age of one and three months, three had congenital
heart disease.
In the case of eleven of the infants the home addresses were outside England and Wales.
