Mass Radiography.—The campaign for the early
detection of symptomless tuberculosis was continued during
the year by miniature mass-radiography units and one such
unit was provided by the London County Council at St.
Luke's Hospital, Chelsea.
A number of the large industrial undertakings in the
Borough were again invited to allow their employees to
undergo examination by the unit, transport to and from
Chelsea being provided by the Borough Council.
The managements of the firms proved very co-operative
and in all 4,396 men and women submitted themselves to
examination. This compares with 2,444 examinations in
1943.

The following particulars give the results of the examinations:—

Total examined.Referred for large films.Did not re-attend.No abnormality.Calcd. and other lesions N.F.A.Referred to General Practitioners. iFurther Investigation Pending.
Probably Tuberculous.Probably Not Tuberculous.Cardio. Vase.

These are satisfactory figures for one year in the present
stage of our mass-radiography campaign, but it must be
pointed out that this Borough is not visited yearly by L.C.C.
mass-radiography teams on account of shortage of staff and
mobile units.
Until recently the R.A.M.C. were in possession of various
such units, and it is to be hoped that the County Council's
organisation will be able to give this Borough considerably
more attention than it has received up to the present time.
