With regard to the unsatisfactory consignments, those from China
and Yugoslavia were re-exported and the remainder destroyed.
English Frozen Whole Egg Plant—During the year, 74 routine
samples were submitted to the Public Health Laboratory Service
in accordance with the Liquid Egg (Pasteurisation) Regulations,
1963. All passed the Amylase Test.
Egg Processing Plant—Dried Whole Egg—One hundred and
thirty-four samples were taken and submitted for bacteriological
examination, all of which proved satisfactory.
Desiccated Coconut—During 1970, routine samples of consignments
of this product submitted for bacteriological examination
totalled 5, all of which proved satisfactory.
Export Certificates
Many consignments of meat are exported from the Cold Stores
located within the Borough and each has to be accompanied by
an appropriate "Certificate"' to the effect that such consignments
have been examined and are considered fit for export for human
consumption.
During the year 5 certificates were so issued and the following table indicates the country of origin of the samples, their destinations and the amounts involved :—

Food and Drugs Act, 1955
Twelve hundred and sixteen samples were submitted for
examination to the Public Analyst, of which 24 informal samples
were obtained in accordance with the Public Health (Imported
Food) Regulations. The remaining samples, consisting of 133
formal and 1,059 informal were obtained in the normal course of
sampling.
Of all the samples obtained, 39 were considered by the Public
Analyst to be non-genuine and of this total 14 were in respect of
imported foods not on sale to the general public and, in these
instances, the importers were notified accordingly.
