For the child of school age there were 8 play centres operated
and these were located at: Avery Hill Park, S.E.9; Briset Road,
S.E.9; Coldharbour, S.E.9, Greenwich Park, S.E.10; Hornfair,
S.E.7; Queenscroft, S.E.9; Winns Common, S.E.18; Woolwich
Common, S.E.18, and all-year-round play centres at West Greenwich
House, S.E.10 and the Y.M.C.A. Building, S.E.18.
Established annual sports events such as the Premier Cycle
Race, the Greenwich Open Road Race at the Inter-Borough
Games all continued to attract great interest from both competitors
and the sporting public alike.
Statistically, 65,000 attendances were recorded at the sports
and play leadership activities detailed above and 3,500 people
actually took part. Some 1,634 football and netball games were
arranged as part of the summer play leadership activities."
