One Hundred "Not Out"
A resident of Weybourne, Miss Edith Perkins, celebrated her
100th birthday on 8th September of the current year. The Matron
and her staff arranged an informal party to mark the occasion
which was attended by the Mayor and Mayoress.
Miss Perkins received a telegram from the Queen and the gift
of a rocking chair purchased from the proceeds of a collection by
the landlord of a local public house.
Recreation
Handicraft instruction, television and radio are provided in all
six homes and, in addition, the day-to-day routine of life is varied
for the residents, in summer, by outings to the coast and country
and, in winter, by colour film shows.
"Bingo" sessions are still popular and the occasional party is
always a welcomed event.
Exchange Holidays
Holidays for residents were arranged on an exchange basis with
two other local authorities, those of East and West Sussex County
Councils. In these exchanges 24 residents were involved with East
Sussex and 11 with West Sussex.
During the fortnight's holiday, escorted outings were planned
for the Out-County residents who were given the opportunity of
