Portion of loaf of BreadSubmitted by a member of the Public.Chem.Composition of specimen not consistent with rodent excrement, but suggests rather the agglomeration of particles of dust in the bakery, possibly by rubbing together under a bread tin.Complainant notified accordingly.
2 .Samples of Natural Lemon Juice ExtractTaken from different casks at a large Cold Storage plant in the Borough.Chem.One sample proved fit for immediate consumption but the other was fermenting actively and in the opinion of the Public Analyst was not fit for this purposeCompany notified accordingly.
3 tins Sheep Tongues.Purchased locally after Public Analyst's report on routine sample indicated an unpleasant taste and traces of mould.Bact.After incubation of 4 days at 37°C. the cans remained sound and the contents good. Microscopically, no bacteria were seen. Cultures from the contents of the cans have yielded in the two cases, a very scanty growth of Staph. Albus and in the other case an aerobic sporebearer.No action.
Crown Corks approx. 12 and a sample of glue.Submitted by a local firm, as the result of information that some Flaked Hen Egg Albumen had been found to be positive for a Salmonella organism, the albumen being a constituent of the glue used in the fixing of the corks.Bact.Reports from the Laboratory indicated that both samples were satisfactory.Company notified accordingly.
