INFANTILE MORTALITY.
The Infantile Mortality Rate measured by the deaths of children
under 1 year of age to the number of live births registered was
34 per thousand live births, as compared with 43 for the previous
year. For the County of London the Rate was 41 and for England
and Wales, 43.
This is the lowest Infantile Mortality Rate ever recorded in the
Borough, with the exception of the years 1941 and 1942 when the
figures were 31 and 32 respectively. (During those years, however,
owing to evacuation and war conditions generally, dependable
figures were difficult to obtain).
The total number of deaths during the year was 59 as compared
with 52 for the previous year.
