Mass Radiography Unit 6D.
(Information kindly provided by Dr. W. D. R. Thompson, Medical
Director).
The Mass Radiography Unit 6D has continued to give good
service throughout 1951. During the year it carried out 48,055
miniature chest X-ray examinations which comprised 26,468 males
and 21,587 females representing 1,699 firms.
For a large portion of the year the Unit was operating at the
Mass Radiography Centre, 20, Golden Lane, London E.C.i. At
the beginning of 1951 the Unit^was responsible for the examination
of workers and residents in the City of London and the Metropolitan
Boroughs of Finsbury, Hackney, Shoreditch and Stoke Newington,
but this was reviewed by the North East Metropolitan Regional
Hospital Board (under which authority the Unit operates) in
September, 1951, when it was decided to transfer the Boroughs of
Hackney and Stoke Newington to another Unit and return to Unit 6D
the Borough of Stepney.
While operating at the Mass Radiography Centre which adjoins
the Borough of Finsbury, the Unit examined over eighty Finsbury
firms and a large number of individuals. This was largely the result
of a circulation of firms by the Medical Officer of Health for Finsbury,
and this helpful co-operation is greatly appreciated.
During the period that the Unit was mobile it carried out
Surveys at firms within its zone.
The Mass Radiography Service which is free, speedy, reliable
and confidential, enables groups of people to have a chest X-ray with
a minimum amount of inconvenience. Its purpose is to discover
tuberculosis and other chest ailments in their early stages when they
are more easily curable.
Firms and individuals who wish to avail themselves of this
Service or to obtain further information should communicate with
the Organising Secretary, Mass Radiography Unit 6D, Finsbury
Health Centre, Pine Street, London, E.C.i. (Tel. Nos. TERminus
2121, Ext. 92 or TERminus 6184).
A notification of the result of the examination is sent to all
examinees who bring to the Unit a stamped envelope bearing their
name and private address.
